What should I do in case of an emergency?

If you are having a medical or mental health emergency at any time, you should dial 911.  If you are having thoughts of suicide you should dial 988.  Or report to your nearest emergency room.  Voicemail and secure messaging on the patient portal should not be used for emergency communications.

What states do you offer services in?

Our office is conveniently located centrally in Silver Spring, Maryland.  Individuals who wish to have a video-visit must be in Maryland at the time of their appointment.  Dr. Miller will be expanding options for video visits in the coming months.  Please stay tuned for updates on states where video visits will be available.

May I schedule with you if I already have a psychotherapist that I work with?

Dr. Miller offers medication management services for individuals already in psychotherapy with another clinician.   In those cases, Dr. Miller will work collaboratively with your therapist.  You may still expect personalized care that considers you as a whole person.

Do you offer treatment for children?

Dr. Miller offers psychiatric services for adults.  IPNAM Health, LLC does not offer treatment for children or adolescents.

What is the usual frequency of sessions?

The frequency of sessions depends on your specific needs and goals for treatment.  It also depends on factors such as prescription medications.  Generally speaking, Dr. Miller recommends meeting every 1-2 weeks at the start of treatment. If you are started on a new medication, or if there is a change in the dose of an existing medication, follow-up is  generally recommended within 2 weeks, however a shorter time frame may be recommended in certain circumstances.  As you progress in treatment and symptoms stabilize, the frequency of visits may be reduced.  This decision will be made in collaboration with Dr. Miller.  Check-ins may be shifted to monthly or every 6-8 weeks if it is safe to do so.

How do I schedule an appointment?

New patients may schedule a 15 minute consultation with Dr. Miller using the online portal, or they may call the office at 1-800-944-7004.  Your psychiatric evaluation may be scheduled after completing the 15-minute consultation.

Existing patients of Dr. Miller who are active in their care may schedule appointments online using the patient portal.  Or they may call the office to schedule directly with Dr. Miller.

Can I expect medications at the first visit?  Will Dr. Miller continue medications from a former doctor?

You should not expect to receive medications at the first appointment.  If you are changing from another doctor, please be sure to coordinate a plan for the transition with them before formally closing that case.  Some medications require a gradual taper off to safely discontinue them.  Other medications have restrictions on the quantity that may be prescribed.

Dr. Miller will make recommendations for medications based on her own assessment and clinical judgement.  It is possible that Dr. Miller may recommend continuing medications that were started by another doctor.  However, it also is possible that prescriptions from another doctor may not be recommended or prescribed by Dr. Miller.

What happens if I miss an appointment?

Dr. Miller understands that unexpected emergencies may occur in our personal and professional lives.  Appointment times are held exclusively for you. Dr. Miller does not double book appointments.  If you are not able to keep your appointment for any reason, please call or send a secure message via the patient portal at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled visit to avoid a charge.  Cancellations  with less than 24 hours notice will be considered a no-show and you will be charged the full visit fee.  Please see the Practice Policies page for more information on missed appointments, cancellations and late arrivals.

What are the fees for appointments?  How much should I expect to spend for treatment?

Please see the Services/Fees page for information on specific fees based on appointment type.  There is a $50 co-pay for individuals on Medicare.  Private pay fees are as follows.  For 30-minute visits, you may anticipate spending about $2000 - $2500 over the first 6 months depending on the frequency of your appointments.  For example, bi-weekly vs monthly visits.  If you are participating in 50-minute sessions, you may anticipate spending about $4100 - $7400 over the first 6 months depending on the frequency of your appointments.  For example, bi-weekly vs weekly visits.  If you have insurance with out-of-network benefits, a percentage of these expenses may be reimbursed after you meet your annual deductible.
